Double Abaya?

Double Abaya?

That's right.

A new found obsession I have is wearing my maxi cardigans over a traditional abaya. The comfort is truly unmatched.

I want to talk about what a traditional Abaya is for those who don't know.

A traditional abaya is a loose-fitting, full-length outer garment worn by some Muslim women as a part of their modest dress. It is commonly worn in many Arab countries and other regions with Muslim populations. The abaya is designed to cover the entire body, except for the hands and face, and is often paired with a headscarf or hijab.

Key features of a traditional abaya include:

  1. Long Length: Abayas are typically ankle-length or floor-length, ensuring that they cover the entire body.

  2. Loose Fit: The garment is designed to be loose and flowing, providing comfort and modesty.

  3. Sleeves: Abayas have long sleeves that cover the arms.

  4. Closure: Many abayas are front-closing with buttons, snaps, or a zipper. Some are also worn open.

  5. Modest Design: The design of the abaya is modest, often plain and free of elaborate patterns. However, contemporary abayas may feature some embellishments or embroidery.

  6. Fabric: Abayas are commonly made from lightweight and breathable fabrics such as crepe, chiffon, or polyester.

  7. Color: Traditionally, abayas are black, but contemporary styles come in a variety of colors.

While the traditional abaya serves the purpose of modesty, some women also choose to express their personal style by selecting abayas with different designs, embellishments, or variations in color. It's important to note that the specific style and design of abayas can vary across different cultures and regions.

Adding the maxi cardigan over the traditional abaya adds a little bit of an edge, especially to a solid abaya. Its trendy, timeless and effortlessly stylish.
